The MSII program from NSF is meant to encourage new research collaborations between mathematical scientists and scientists from other disciplines working in NSF-supported research areas of high national priority. The program facilitates the co-review and co-funding of collaborative research projects by the NSF’s Division of the Mathematical Sciences (DMS)  by: providing leverage for investments of non-DMS programs that include mathematical scientists; and providing a mechanism to request DMS co-review in interdisciplinary research teams.

This program is meant to support new research collaborations and, thus, won’t support ongoing or renewal projects in which mathematical scientists have been previously supported by non-DMS NSF programs.

A PI can apply for MSII support once a proposal to a non-DMS proposal has been submitted.
