The DEB (Division of Environmental Biology) Core supports research on evolutionary and ecological processes at various levels, from populations to ecosystems. DEB encourages studies that uncover fundamental principles explaining the diversity of life and its interactions with the environment. Research can include fieldwork, lab experiments, synthesis activities, phylogenetic projects, or theoretical modeling. Proposals should be submitted to specific core clusters, and interdisciplinary approaches are welcomed. Marine biome research should be directed to relevant programs. DEB programs also encourage leveraging NSF-supported data networks and infrastructure. The division aims to increase diversity in the environmental biology workforce and supports inclusive efforts to recruit and retain underrepresented groups.
