At this time we are considering prospective students only.
The call for applications for students already enrolled at U-M will come out in April 2020.

If you have identified a prospective, incoming graduate student interested in research in Computational Discovery and Engineering with your research group, we invite you to nominate them for an MICDE $4K Top-off fellowship.

MICDE has offered $4,000 fellowships since 2014. These fellowships are meant to augment other sources of funding. The awards have proven to be an effective tool in recruiting top students. Fellows may use the funds to attend a conference, buy a computer, or any other approved activity that will enhance their graduate experience. Our expectation is that Fellows enroll in either the Ph.D. in Scientific Computing, the Graduate Certificate in Computational Discovery and Engineering or the Graduate Certificate in Computational Neuroscience.

To nominate a student, you must be a tenure/tenure-track or research faculty member at U-M. Please fill out THIS GOOGLE FORM. The form cannot be saved before submitting, so you will need to have ready:

  • the student’s full name,
  • their undergraduate institution and major,
  • their Master’s institution and major (if applicable),
  • expected research area and brief statement of support, and
  • the student’s U-M application file (pdf).

The deadline to submit a nomination is Friday, February 28, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. E.T. However, applications will be reviewed in two phases:

  • Phase 1: nominations submitted by Friday, January 31, 2020, 5:00 p.m. E.T. will be reviewed. We expect to send notifications by Friday, February 14, 2020.
  • Phase 2: nominations submitted between Saturday, February 1 and Friday, February 28, 2020 will be reviewed. We expect to send notifications by Friday, March 13, 2020.

We can only accept one nomination per faculty member. Please nominate a student for whom you believe the fellowship will make a material difference in deciding to join U-M. If you are nominating on behalf of your department’s recruiting committee, we can void this requirement, but please let us know which faculty members are likely to be the student’s advisor.

If you have any question about these fellowships, please read the FAQ section on this page, or contact
