MICDE operations plan during the COVID-19 outbreak
You are all aware of the cancellation of in-class instruction and the suspension of most symposia, seminars and other events, as a consequence of the COVID-19 outbreak in Michigan. MICDE’s leadership has arrived at the following plan for our activities in coordination with the University of Michigan Office of Research:
-
The 2020 MICDE Annual Symposium originally scheduled for April 9 and 10 has been postponed. This includes all talks, the poster session, the Workshop on Resilient Cities and the associated Hackathon. We are considering alternate dates in early Fall 2020.
-
MICDE Seminars scheduled for Winter 2020 have been cancelled or postponed to future dates, most likely to Fall 2020. This includes tomorrow’s joint MICDE/AIM seminar by Prof. Lyudmyla Barannyk. We may hold one or two talks in webinar format over the next few weeks.
-
The MICDE Catalyst Grant program will proceed, albeit with some adjustment in dates and timelines. Please stay tuned for more information on this front.
-
The MICDE Fellowship program for incoming and continuing students will proceed on more or less the planned schedule. More information is forthcoming.
-
MICDE faculty and staff will continue to support our three academic programs: the PhD in Scientific Computing, the Graduate Certificate in Computational Discovery and Engineering, and the Graduate Certificate in Computational Neuroscience. Advising and administrative support will be provided via a combination of email and, where necessary, video conferencing.
As with other aspects of the University’s operations, our goal, first and foremost, is to ensure the health and safety of our community. By suspending our operations, and proceeding only with those that can function entirely in remote mode, we aim to return to full strength at the earliest opportunity.
Sincerely,
The MICDE Team
