Jingwen Hu is a Professor of Industrial and Operations Engineering in the College of Engineering, with appointments in Mechanical Engineering and the U-M Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI), where he serves as Associate Director. His research focuses on injury biomechanics, human body modeling, and optimization of safety systems, developing parametric finite element human body models that represent diverse populations across size, shape, and age, as well as parametric vehicle models reflecting the vehicle fleet. These models support virtual crash testing and AI-driven digital twins for predicting human injury risk, with translation into safer vehicles, protective equipment, and health technologies through partnerships with industry, NHTSA, DOD, and NIH.
